How to get your Canada pension statement
How to retrieve your own official pension record from Canada, step by step.
This is free — you can do it yourself
There is no charge for your own pension record. The guide below just makes it faster. PensionChart never asks for your portal login, and never contacts an authority on your behalf.
What you're asking for
CPP Statement of Contributions
Known in English as the Canada Pension Plan Statement of Contributions. Look for this name on the site — it may not be translated.
My Service Canada Account (MSCA)
canada.ca
Before you start
- Your Social Insurance Number (SIN).
- A GCKey, or a Sign-In Partner login through a Canadian bank if you still hold a Canadian account.
- If you are registering for the first time, a personal access code may be mailed to you — allow extra time from abroad.
Steps
- Sign in to My Service Canada AccountMSCA is the single portal for CPP and Old Age Security. Sign-In Partner (your Canadian bank) is usually smoother than GCKey if you still have Canadian banking.Open this page ↗
- Open your CPP Statement of ContributionsThis lists your pensionable earnings and contributions for every year you worked in Canada, plus an estimate of your monthly CPP at 60, 65 and 70.
- Check your years of Canadian residence for OASOld Age Security is separate from CPP and is based on years lived in Canada after 18, not on contributions — roughly 1/40th of the full amount per year of residence. If you emigrated, expect a partial OAS.
- Verify the contribution years look rightCross-check against your own record of Canadian employment. A missing year is worth querying while you still have the payslips or T4s to prove it.
- If you can't get online, request it by phone or postService Canada will send a Statement of Contributions by mail. From outside Canada and the US there is an international line, and collect calls are accepted from some countries.
If it doesn't work
- You can't complete MSCA registration from abroad
- The mailed personal access code is the usual blocker. Request the Statement of Contributions by phone or post instead — same document, slower.
- You no longer have a Canadian bank account for Sign-In Partner
- Use GCKey, which does not depend on a bank relationship.
- You have fewer than the minimum years of Canadian residence for OAS abroad
- OAS paid outside Canada normally requires a minimum period of residence; a social security agreement with your country may help you meet it. Raise this when you claim.
What we couldn't confirm
Current international phone numbers and whether collect calls are accepted from a given country change; confirm on the Service Canada site rather than relying on a number quoted here.
Once you have it
Upload the statement to your vault and we'll read the figures out of it — balances, benefits, vesting and retirement ages — and tell you what changed since your last one.
