What you're asking for
Historia laboral / estado de cuenta
Known in English as the Contribution history statement. Look for this name on the site — it may not be translated.
Colpensiones
colpensiones.gov.co
Before you start
- Your Colombian identity document number (cédula), or the foreigner ID you used.
- Which regime you were in: Colpensiones (the public average-premium regime) or a private AFP (the individual savings regime). Many people have been in both.
- A representative in Colombia if you are abroad — formal filings very often require a power of attorney (poder especial).
Steps
- Establish which regime holds your contributionsColombia runs two parallel systems. Contributions follow whichever you were affiliated to at the time, and people who switched have history in both.
- Request your historia laboral from ColpensionesThe labour history statement lists contribution weeks by employer. Colpensiones has an electronic office for requests and filings.Open this page ↗
- Request statements from any private AFP you were withThe AFPs are supervised by the Superintendencia Financiera, which publishes the list and handles complaints.Open this page ↗
- Check your weeks against the eligibility thresholdThe public regime requires a minimum number of contribution weeks as well as an age. Knowing the count early is what tells you whether continuing voluntarily is worth it.
- Save the statementsKeep both, and note that pensioners abroad must periodically file proof of life through the electronic office.
If it doesn't work
- You are abroad and the process expects you in person
- A special power of attorney (poder especial) granted to a lawyer or trusted person in Colombia is the standard route. Colombian consulates can notarise it.
- Weeks are missing from your labour history
- Employer non-payment is common. Colpensiones has a correction procedure, and unpaid contributions can sometimes be pursued against the employer.
- You cannot remember which AFP you joined
- The Superintendencia Financiera can direct you, and Colpensiones' record usually shows the date you transferred out.
What we couldn't confirm
Whether Colpensiones' electronic office accepts a request from a user without a Colombian phone number.
Once you have it
Upload the statement to your vault and we'll read the figures out of it — balances, benefits, vesting and retirement ages — and tell you what changed since your last one.
