How to retrieve your own official pension record from Hungary, step by step.
This is free — you can do it yourself
There is no charge for your own pension record. The guide below just makes it faster. PensionChart never asks for your portal login, and never contacts an authority on your behalf.
What you're asking for
Nyugdíjbiztosítási hatósági bizonyítvány
Known in English as the Official certificate of pension insurance periods. Look for this name on the site — it may not be translated.
Magyar Államkincstár (Hungarian State Treasury)

Before you start
- Your Hungarian TAJ number (social insurance number) and your personal identification data as registered in Hungary.
- An Ügyfélkapu / Ügyfélkapu+ account for online services, or willingness to use the postal route.
- Your Hungarian employers and years, including any state-owned predecessor names.
Steps
- Start at the Treasury's pension pagesThe Hungarian State Treasury administers pensions; the Pension Payment Directorate handles payments, including abroad. The English pages are the better entry point.Open this page ↗
- Request your service-time certificateThe certificate lists your recognised service time (szolgálati idő) — the years that determine eligibility. You can request it well before pension age, and it is the document to check for gaps.
- Use the international channel if you live abroadCross-border cases are handled by the Government Office of the Capital City Budapest rather than a local office.Open this page ↗
- Check pre-1998 and private-fund periodsHungary reversed its mandatory private pillar in 2010-11 and most members were returned to the state system. If you were in a private fund, confirm how those years are now recorded.
- Save the certificateKeep it. If you are already receiving a Hungarian pension abroad, note that the Treasury runs an annual data check for beneficiaries living outside Hungary.Open this page ↗
If it doesn't work
- You cannot register for Ügyfélkapu from abroad
- Hungarian consulates can register you. The Treasury also accepts written requests by post for a service-time certificate, which needs no online identity.
- Employment before 1990 is missing
- Records from state enterprises that no longer exist were transferred to archives. The Treasury can search them, but the request must name the employer as precisely as possible.
- You never had a TAJ number
- If you worked legally in Hungary, one was issued. It appears on Hungarian payslips and health documents; the Treasury can trace it from your name, mother's name and date of birth.
What we couldn't confirm
Whether the service-time certificate can be requested fully online, or requires the postal form for applicants abroad.
Once you have it
Upload the statement to your vault and we'll read the figures out of it — balances, benefits, vesting and retirement ages — and tell you what changed since your last one.
